“Everyone in our business is on the whole time. I wanted to come to a really calm place and help reset the team. We're in a good place, but I also wanted to make it restorative. Dan did a great job with that. We all had fun, and we learned something. Maybe one day we'll have our own DJ set, you never know.”

Entrainment neuroscience
The science is simple.
The effect is not.
Entrainment is the brain's tendency to synchronise with rhythmic external stimuli. It is the same neurological mechanism behind coordination, trust, and shared decision-making in high-performing teams.
The evidence
Peer-reviewed,
at a glance.
Synchrony → Cooperation
People who act in synchrony cooperate more in group tasks afterwards — even when it requires personal sacrifice.
Wiltermuth & Heath, Psychological Science (2009)
Music → Stress reversal
Facilitated group music-making measurably reversed hormonal and immune markers of the classic stress response.
Bittman et al., Alternative Therapies in Health & Medicine (2001)
Making music → Fast bonding
Groups that make music together bond significantly faster than groups doing other creative activities side by side.
Pearce, Launay & Dunbar, Royal Society Open Science (2015)
Multitudes
Suppressing your creativity doesn't make you more professional. It makes you less healthy.
* A WHO review of over 3,000 studies concluded the arts play a major role in preventing ill health (WHO, 2019). Across 19 countries and 79,000 adults, engaging in hobbies was associated with 29% lower mortality risk (Journal of Global Health, 2025). A 14 year University College London study published in the BMJ linked arts engagement with a significantly longer life (Fancourt and Steptoe, 2019).
Observation
High-performing professionals are trained to suppress parts of themselves, especially creative ones, in the name of focus and credibility.
Cost
That suppression doesn't disappear. It accumulates in the nervous system, the body, and ultimately the team and the business.
Reframe
Creativity is regulation. Executives who allow creative expression are measurably more resilient, decisive, and present.
“If David Solomon can run Goldman Sachs and DJ in public, you can also allow your creativity to coexist with your leadership. Because as Brené Brown says, unused creativity metastasizes.”
